The Dishonored series is a fantastic franchise that has received a very favorable reception and reviews. The first game in the series was released in October 2012 followed by Dishonored 2 in 2016. Emerging as one of the best games of the year, it kept to the promises made by the original game, kicking in the interest of fans in the Dishonored 3 even as there is yet to be any indication that it will see the light of the day.
Instead of the third part of the game, what fans got was a spinoff, Death of the Outsider. To be honest, the expansion is excellent in every way that you may want to look at it. The unfortunate thing, however, is that after its release, Arkane Studios has revealed that it is allowing the game to rest. What is not known is whether the resting is only temporary or permanent. Here are the things that we know thus far:
Dishonored 3 Release Date
Arkane Studios gave 4 years between the first game of the series which was released in 2012 and the second which came in 2016. In 2017, the studios released the expansion of the game, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. With all these, there is hardly any serious consideration that it will release Dishonored 3 any time soon.
More so, there is yet to be any official announcement or statement on when we may get to see the release of the game nor are there any serious rumors in that regards. There are little chances that even if an announcement would be made on the release of the game it will be anytime in 2018 since the E3 2018 has come and gone. This, therefore, leaves us with 2019 as the possible time for an announcement, but even that is very much unlikely.
Since Arkane has not yet made any announcement or even any indication that work has started on the game, we cannot talk about any teaser, trailer, and other things around that. This is because as it stands, they don’t exist.
By the way, there is still no indication that the game will be released because the developers of the game were yet to decide if a new game in the series was going to be made as at 2017.
News and Rumors
Since the release of Dishonored 2 and later the release of Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, there has been no official announcement from Arkane Studios on the status of the third game in the series. Nevertheless, there have been a good number of information that we have got as well as some rumors and speculations.
The game will not be released soon
Even though because of the success of the series as well as its expansion there is a fanbase that is eagerly waiting for the release of the 3, Arkane is not in a hurry to release it. According to Ricardo Bare who is the game’s lead developer, the game is now resting. He revealed that while he had no idea what would happen as time progressed, for now, the studio was not going to work on the game.

The reason behind this is for Arkane to be able to work on something different from the game which has come to be among its most popular games since the studio began in 1999.
Different Characters would be introduced
If you have followed the story of the game since from the time the first part was released, you will obviously realize that the expansion of the game has led it to its conclusion even though not as strong as many of us would have loved to see. What this means is that if any game in the series is coming after Death of the Outsider, it will make use of different characters.
This does not only make a lot of sense, but it is also confirmed by the creative director of Dishonored, Harvey Smith. According to him, even though he doesn’t know much about the future of the game, he knows that if there will ever come any after Outsider, different characters are going to be used and they would find themselves in different situations. That makes you wonder if it will ever be Dishonored!
What we want to see on Dishonored 3
If Arkane will honor us with the release of Dishonored 3, there are things that we would want to see improved on from the previous releases:
Characters we can relate to
Going by what has been revealed, we would get to see entirely new characters in new situations. Alongside this, one thing that we also want to see is the characters being relatable enough to know them beyond the general story told. This will help us to have a bond with them and enjoy the game much better than the previous ones. Previously, the characters have not developed strongly to make us appreciate the story as much as possible.
Additional map
No one is complaining about Dunwall and Karnaca but maybe its time to move on to newer grounds. It will make an interesting experience shifting the game to places that are yet to be visited by the havoc of diseases and whale oil.
The same experience
Beyond every other thing, if a new Dishonored game is coming, the only thing that we want to see apart from the same experience with Dishonored games is something even better. The strength of the game lies not only in the story it has to tell but also in the experience you get with each battle and the creativity in its entire development. That is the same thing we want to see or something even better.
Conclusion
Although the market is looking to favor the release of the game, there isn’t as much enthusiasm on the part of Arkane to start any work on the franchise. On a normal day, that is something that will be hard to understand, but it is different in this situation. The first thing to consider is that the storyline of the game has been fully exhausted even though there is still a way that a new game in the series can still come up and maintain the same elements.
Secondly, considering the fact that Dishonored 2 did not get to perform as much as expected in terms of sales, it is possible that Arkane may decide not to continue with it even after the expansion.
Finally, it was only in 2017 that the expansion of the game was released. Therefore, we believe that there is still time to decide on what is next for the game and if Dishonored 3 will see the light of the day.
