Remothered: Tormented Fathers

Remothered: Tormented Fathers – Release Date, Plot & Other Facts

Posted by Tim Flaherty

The survival horror games genre is not the most popular out there. Of course, games like Resident Evil which is known to be the first game that originally coined out the term have recorded huge success. Nonetheless, even before the game, we had other horror video games such as the 1989 Sweet Home video game which is the origin of Resident Evil and then Alone in the Dark (1992) and Clock Tower in 1995. What is now believed to be the real survival horror game is Remothered: Tormented Fathers.

The genre is not very popular as most of the few games under it, including Clock Tower did not become so popular, until Resident Evil which came to define the genre. Nonetheless, Remothered happens to further open the horror game genre.

Remothered: Tormented Fathers Plot

As already stated, it is a realistic survival horror game that was first released in 2018 by Stormind Games. The game is not very long, but it still gives a fresh breath to those looking for something in the genre.

For anyone who has played Clock Tower, somethings may be very familiar here. The story behind Remothered is on a woman, Rosemary, who is trying to find out about the disappearance of a young girl a few years prior to the game. She gets obsessed with the case and decides to talk to the adopted father of the girl who happens to be rather mysterious and suffers from an unnatural sickness.

More so, the man lives in a house together with his wife and a nurse both of whom are as creepy as the man and everything around them.

Rosemary gets trapped in a mansion and so she has to find a way of staying alive with an AK 47, she also has to find her way around as enemies will keep appearing to her. What this means is that as regards the gameplay, this is mostly a stealth game.

Remothered: Tormented Fathers has won a good number of awards thus far. The third-person psychological horror game which also happens to be the first game in the Remothered trilogy was first released on 30th January 2018 after it was first announced in 2017. Before the full game was released, the Early Access was first released on October 21, 2017, for PC gamers.

The game has been released for various platforms including Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The release date for the game on Nintendo Switch is August 30, 2019. The game on other platforms was released in 2018.

Other facts about Remothered: Tormented Fathers

1. Cast

The game was voiced by different individuals such as Danielle McRae who did the voice for Rosemary Reed, Adam Harrington who did for Richard Felton (the old man), while Olivia Steele provided the voice for Jennifer Richardine Felton (the wife of the old man) and Celeste Felton, their adopted daughter that has disappeared.

Other cast members are Lani Minella who voiced Gloria Talmadge Ragan (Madame Svenska), Brandon Fague who did the voice for Mr. Manni, Alien Illman for Red Nun, and Scott Funderburk for TV Reporter.

2. Gameplay

As for the gameplay, it is a stealth game and enemies can appear suddenly. You will also get some clues to find good locations as well as solve certain puzzles. In addition to that, you can create distractions with things such as pre-set alarm clocks and even set up barricades that will give you a little time.

More so, for every encounter, the game has multiple encounters which make it more fun to play. To the level of difficulty, you may choose to start at the medium level which means that although it is challenging, it is not impossible to play.

3. Sequel

Because Remothered: Tormented Fathers is the first game in a trilogy, it is natural that we expect a sequel. Well, it has been announced. On 11 April 2019, the game was awarded the “Best Italian Game” at the Italian Video Game Awards ceremony (IVGA). During the ceremony, it was revealed that Modus Games had already started work towards developing the second chapter of the game; Remothered: Going Porcelain. The developers of the game have also taken to various social media sites to make the announcement.

The game which will be released in collaboration with Maximum Games is coming sometime in 2020. Considering that the sequel has been announced only recently, we are still yet to see a trailer but it is known that the game will be released for various platforms including PC, X Box One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

Also, other things such as the plot and the casts of the sequel, Remothered: Going Porcelain are not known for now, but if we are getting anything in the line of the first chapter, then we are clearly in for yet another great ride.

In addition to that, each of the sequels can be bought separately once the trilogy is complete. If you prefer the bundle, that will also be possible to buy. Each of the game is expected to run for anything between 6 to seven hours as revealed by Chris Darril, the game’s director.

Conclusion

Even though Remothered: Tormented Fathers is by no means the biggest horror game out there, neither is it a big-budget game, it is still one of the best horror games we have seen in a while. It is more of a revival of a genre that is mostly quite. The game takes us back to Clock Tower in a great way, improving on almost every aspect of the game. The difficulty is improved upon while the suspense is maintained in a much deeper way.

The strength of the game is in the way it is able to maintain the tension that you want to have in a horror game. With every move you make, you will feel that something isn’t well and you are being stalked by an enemy. On the other hand, the weak side of the game centers around its rather poor dialogue and while it is enjoyable, the game is pretty short.
