Will There Be A Xenoblade Chronicles 3? Here Is What We Know So Far

The Xenoblade Chronicles franchise is probably one of the finest JRPG. The game which first launched in 2010 by Monolith Soft has been a success both commercially and critically. After the first installment of the game, the second, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 which was released in 2017 and became a huge success and still remains the most successful game released by Monolith Soft.

As a result of how good the second game in the series is, it left many fans already yearning for yet another game; Xenoblade Chronicles 3. However, a couple of years since the last game was released and then Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country which came in 2018, there is still nothing official from Monolith as regards the next game. Nonetheless, unofficially, there are words already going round about the next title. Here is all we know about the game thus far:

Will There Be A Xenoblade Chronicles 3?

For anyone who really understands the way game developers work, it is easy to guess that we will probably get to see a new game in the franchise, most especially with the success of its last major game under the title. In fact, it is somewhat surprising that Monolith has not started dropping hints on the next game in order to ride on the wave that has already been created by the success of Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Of course, they did just that with the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna- The Golden Country shortly after the main game. However, it is only a standalone game that came as a prequel to the main game. The release centered on Aegis War which was made reference to in the main game. The expansion pack was also well received, but it is not a main game in the series. It is not  Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

Officially, Monolith Soft is still yet to say anything on the development and subsequent release of the game, there is enough indication to believe that the franchise will not be abandoned by the developers at this time, and so it is easy to assume that there will be Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

What To Know About The Xenoblade Chronicles Series

A fantasy sci-fi RPG, Xenoblade as a franchise has been a successful series thus far, both critically and financially. The success of the game is due to a universe that is rich and a story that is overwhelming. Each of the game in the series has its own story, setting, and characters.

As stated, the first game, Xenoblade Chronicles was released in 2010. It tells the story of a group of friends led by Shulk who are on a revenge mission against the Mechon after an assault on their home. The next game, Xenoblade Chronicles X was released in 2010 as a successor to the first game, although the two are not directly connected except for some gameplay elements.

The direct sequel to the first game in the series is Xenoblade Chronicles 2 which is also the most successful game in the young franchise and also the most successful under the belt of Monolith Soft. The Nintendo Switch game tells the story of Rex who is on a mission to bring Pyra to the paradise of Elysium in order to save the world of a dying titan.

A year after the release of the game, it was followed by Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country in 2018. Torna was set 500 years prior to the events of the second game in the series, and it also released on Nintendo Switch.

Monolith is already working on something new

Presently, it is rumored that Monolith is already working on a new game but not in the Xenoblade franchise. The rumor began after it called for the hiring of new hands for a project it is currently working on. The new game which is still unknown is an action game.

With the job listing which is described as urgent calling for people experienced in the development of action games, it becomes clear that the game is not a Xenoblade since it is not an action game in the most sense.

Is Monolith Soft already working on Xenoblade Chronicles 3?

While there is no confirmation on whether it is Xenoblade Chronicles 3 that the developers are now working on, it is known that there is already work on ground. Some months ago, Monolith Soft sought out to hire new workers for a new RPG project which it began.

The interesting thing about this is that the project under development is said to be under Takahashi No. 1 Production Development Team, which is the same team involved in the development of Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade Chronicles X, as well as Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Why the Xenoblade franchise will hopefully continue

In only four months, Xenoblade 2 sold 1.3 million copies on one platform. In addition to financial success, it also has critical acclamation under its belt for the same title. This made it almost impossible for anyone to believe that the developers will abandon the franchise at not only its greatest height but also during the most successful run of the Monolith Soft itself.

It is possible that they may have their eyes on something new for now, but the franchise will not be abandoned especially not after the success of the second game. More so, with Xenoblade Chronicles released in 2010, it was until 7 years that we saw the second game in the series with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 coming in 2017. This means that it may take a little while before we see another game in the series, although it may not take that long.

Conclusion

With all said, there is optimism on the part of fans of the game that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will come and the franchise will still have a long life. However, in 2018, Tetsuya Takahashi who is an executive producer with Monolith Soft who is also the creator of the series, revealed in an interview with Nintendo Life that for fans wanting to see a sequel in the franchise, Monolith Sot was yet to have any firm plans on continuing with the series as it is constantly thinking of new things.

Since then, so much has happened and fans are still hopeful although we are still yet to get any official confirmation on the game.
