How Does Sling TV Work and What are The Packages?

In between popular streaming sites like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu as well as satellite and cable service, you will find Sling TV which is the first multichannel TV to stream live over the internet. Having started only in 2015, it has opened the door for many others to follow, although it still maintains its position as one of those on the top and one of the cheapest.

Sling TV does not offer as many channels as you would get with your normal cable but it expands on what sites like Hulu and Netflix offer, with its inclusion of popular channels including news, sports, kids channels, and other regular entertainment channels.

Sling TV Packages

The Live Streaming service comes with three packages; Sling Orange, Sling Blue, and Sling Orange + Blue. Before now, its charges start at $20 per month, however, it has now taken it to $25 per month.

Sling Orange: At $25 per month, this package gets you access to 29 channels including ESPN, Comedy Central, Disney, Cartoon Network, and more. This package is only limited to one simultaneous stream at a time.

Sling Blue: Also like the Orange, this is priced at $25 per month. Interestingly, you get access to 35 channels, including Fox, BET, and NBC channels. Nonetheless, you will not have access to ESPN and Disney channels. The Blue package allows you up to three simultaneous streams.

Sling Orange + Blue: If you are looking to get all the channels from both Orange and Blue, this is the package for you. Instead of paying $50, you are charged $40 for the 48 channels that you get. You can simultaneously stream up to 4 channels at a time, but only one Orange channel can be streaming at a particular time.

While these are the major packages, there are also some extras that you can get. The extra and smaller packages are customized for people who want specific things and for each of these, you get to be charged $5 per month. The extra packages include Heartland Extra, Hollywood Extra, International, Comedy, Kids, News, as well as Cloud DVR.

How does it work?

Sling TV works in a very simple way and it doesn’t need a dish, cable connections, or even any box that you will have to put on your TV or beside your computer. Because it is not open to all the parts of the world, the first thing you have to do if you are not in the United States is to check the site. If you can access it, that means it is available in your country.

The next thing to do is for you to subscribe and set up your account. Once that is done, what you should do is to install the Sling TV app on your device. Sling supports devices such as iOS and Android devices, Xbox One, Roku box, Chromecast, and other Windows devices. How this works is that you will simply launch the app and decide based on your subscription, what channel to watch.

Another thing to understand is that being different from Netflix and other similar services, you get access to channels in realtime as they happen in the same way as your satellite or cable channels.

That said, most channels have “3 Day Replay,” which is a feature that makes it possible for you to watch shows that have been aired within the past 3 days. Some even allow you to access shows that have been aired for up to 7 days. Contents are aired with commercials which you can skip. However, if you are watching past shows, you may not be able to skip.
