Metal Gear Solid 6 Release Date and Rumors: Here’s What We Know So Far

Metal Gear Solid 6 was what we were waiting for before getting the news that Hideo Kojima has left Konami and has already pitched his tent away from the company. This is a big deal because Kojima is the creator of Metal Gear Solid so there is the fear that with him out, the game may not get to move as it should. But then that is only a fear.

The truth is that not many have put the divorce between Konami and Kojima behind neither have many forgiven Konami for letting him go, but somewhere in there, we want Metal Gear to survive and succeed. The only one that it seems has been able to put it all behind is Konami which still owns the right to the series. The video game company has gone on to work on a spin-off, Metal Gear Survive which it released in February 2018. While not the best we could have seen, it is far from the worst.

Beyond the spin-off, what every eye is set on is the big one, the Metal Gear Solid 6. The irony is that Konami is still yet to make any official announcement on the development of the game. Nevertheless, the popular belief is just to wait because it will definitely come even if it takes some time.

Metal Gear Solid 6 Release Date

To the big question of when the game will finally be released, the simple answer is; no one knows. We can end up speculating, but unless Konami makes an announcement, we are still a rather long distance away from seeing the game.

In fact, there is no room for speculation because if you have followed the development of the game, you will realize that Konami has not maintained a schedule for the series. The original Metal Gear came in 1987 followed by the Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake in 1990, and then Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in 2004. 2008 and 2014 saw the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes respectively. Going by this, there is hardly a way that you can guess when the next game is coming.

With that said, it has been rumored that the reason why the previous games have been taking too long was that it was Hideo Kojima who was in charge. The idea now is that with his exit, the game may be developed much faster. For now, we are yet to see how faster it will be.

The expectation was that after the release of Metal Gear Survive in February, a release date may be given for Metal Gear Solid 6. Unfortunately, E3 has come and gone and then Gamescom without a word about the game. What this means is that at the latest, the game may get to see the release of the game probably in the next two years (2020-21) in the latest. That will only be possible if we get an announcement of a release date in 2019 against the coming years.

Rumors: Here’s What We Know So Far

With no word from Konami on the development of the MGS, the only thing that is going around is the speculations of gamers, rumors, and little available news. Here is all that we know:

It will take some time for us to see any teasers or trailer. For now, it is completely pointless looking out to see if Konami has released any trailer because unless it makes an announcement, that may not come. Apart from the announcement and the trailer, there are a number of things that we know.

The first thing we know which we have pointed out above is that Hideo Kojima will entirely not be involved in the development of the game. Not only has he been involved in all the previous games in the franchise, he has also been with Konami for as far back as 1986. As a result of his departure, the fear of a lot of people is that the sequel to the Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain may not be as great as the previous titles but until we get to see the Metal Gear Solid 6, we can never say.

The MGS 5 ended with the realization that it wasn’t Big Bos that has been fighting, instead it was a brainwashed man who was surgically altered to both look and think like Big Boss. With that, the sixth part of the game will either begin from there and move forward or even go back and pick it from the part of the mentor of Big Boss, The Boss. The bet for us is that Konami may decide to just continue from the fifth part.

Apart from the things we know, we also have expectations for the Metal Gear Solid 6 if it is coming. The most important is that it will need to come with life, stepping away from all that Metal Gear Survive is. You may be forgiven to describe the spin-off as a flop in comparison to other games in the series. While the storyline was poor in itself, the fun in the game went missing. Also, it picked from the Metal Gear Solid 5, only that it lacks the drive and confidence of the previous game. Because of this, it will be good for Konami to ensure that the MGS 6 comes gives a different experience.

Conclusions

It doesn’t matter from what point Konami will pick MGS 6, the thing that is easy to bet on is that it will still have an interesting story to build on so we can safely believe that the franchise is not anywhere near its ending. More so, we believe that the absence of Hideo will not do any significant damage to the next game because Konami is very experienced when it comes to games, so it will make sure that it gets the best team possible to work on the game since it still ranks amongst its best franchise.

The main thing, right now, is that the video game company is still yet to publicly discuss anything about the fifth series of the MGS so it remains very hard for anyone to say anything with complete certainty about the game.
