Bath, UK, 23 September 2008 – picoChip and Wintegra have announced that their technology will be used as the independent reference basestation equipment for this year’s WiMAX World Low Power CPE Chipset Shootout. At the Shootout, organized and moderated by WiMAX20/20, different client chipsets will be challenged to demonstrate performance and battery life whilst interoperating with the ‘golden basestation’.
As well as enabling the Shootout, on its booth (#316) picoChip will be demonstrating its industry-standard PC8532 basestation reference design, the first such product to fully support WiMAX IO-MIMO. The programmable PC8532 has demonstrated compatibility between systems running WiMAX Forum Certified™ 16d, 16e SISO, and 16e MIMO. picoChip's technology will also be on show at Wintegra's booth (#730) within a fully-functional demonstration system that includes the WiChorus intelligent ASN gateway.
Also on show will be the company’s LTE reference designs. Developed together with Wintegra and mimoOn, the systems build on common hardware platform with the company’s WiMAX designs, spanning the entire range of eNodeBs, from femtocells to complex multi-carrier macrocells.
In the conference hall, picoChip’s VP of marketing, Rupert Baines, will present at the 4G Executive Summit on the use of femtocells in a 4G network (30th September, 3:45pm) and speak on the role of femtocells in multi-hop relays (1st October, 5pm). picoChip’s WiMAX and LTE product manager, Paul Neil, will also take to the stage at the Solutions Theatre to discuss eNodeB and how to supercharge femtocell performance (1st October, 3:30pm).
Speaking about the Shootout event, taking place on the 2nd October, Rupert Baines observed that the availability of attractive user equipment is key to the success of WiMAX. “And this means low power needs to be addressed. Our ability to deliver true MIMO has meant we’ve been selected as the reference standard in the shootout tests. For us, it’s a great endorsement of our technology and it will be interesting to see how the power issue has been addressed.”
As the industry-standard for WiMAX basestations, with the most advanced feature set, standards compliance and interoperability, picoChip’s products are used by AT4 Wireless, the official certification authority of WiMAX Forum, for their Protocol Conformance Tester.
