picoChip selected as a double finalist in the Wireless Broadband Innovation (WBI) Awards 2006

picochip is finalist in ‘Most Innovative Wireless Broadband Company’ and ‘Best WiMAX / Wireless Broadband Product’ award categories

picoChip, the leader in multi-core DSPs for advanced wireless and the industry-standard for WiMAX infrastructure, today announced that it has been nominated as a double finalist at the Wireless Broadband Innovation (WBI) Awards 2006. picoChip is in contention for both Most Innovative Wireless Broadband Company and Best WiMAX / Wireless Broadband Product award categories. This follows last week’s announcement that it won Frost & Sullivan’s prestigious 2006 Semiconductors Industry Innovation & Advancement of the Year Award.

The Wireless Broadband Innovation Awards are the hotly contested independent awards for users and service providers of wireless broadband worldwide. The awards recognize leadership, innovation and excellence in wireless broadband development and deployment. WBI received entries from more than 150 companies in 30 countries across the world.

picoChip’s President and CEO, Guillaume d'Eyssautier, commented, “These are exciting times for picoChip. The WBI double finalist nominations, compounded by our recent Frost & Sullivan award win is a validation by the industry of picoChip leadership in the WiMAX market. We are proud to be participating with success at such prestigious events.”

picoChip provides software defined radio solutions to the key challenges of cost, development time and flexibility for the next generation of wireless systems. The company’s multi-core processors deliver a world-beating price/performance combination. Uniquely, the company also delivers complete, standard-compliant reference designs for UMTS (HSDPA, upgradeable to HSUPA) and WiMAX/WiBRO (both 802.16d and 802.16e, with support for AAS and MIMO). WiMAX systems using picoChip are available from Airspan, Intel, Ericsson, Nortel, Marconi and a number of other manufacturers. picoChip technology is also being used to develop other advanced wireless protocols such as EVDO, 802.20 and TD-SCDMA, and in 4G research.

The WBI Award categories cover excellence in service provision; in enterprise deployment by the end-user; in product development; and personal and corporate achievement. An independent judging panel will select the winners, who will be announced on May 17th at the gala dinner and awards ceremony at the Café Royal, London, UK.
