Keep informed about picoChip
picoChip’s PC8808 femtocell reference design is the industry’s first to support the TD-SCDMA standard. It provides the lowest-cost complete solution available on the market today.
The single-chip design provides a complete, fully tested software-defined implementation for a TD-SCDMA PHY, encompassing both Node B and protocol stack. The PC8808 is fully compliant with 3GPP Release 5 TS25 series TDD standards, including HSDPA capabilities.
The design is the ideal platform for the rapid development of a femtocell Node B for home or office BTS solutions, delivering high speed data, voice and multimedia services. The use of a PC202 picoArray device with an integrated ARM9 core provides an extremely cost effective, fully programmable solution allowing rapid customization, optimization and upgrades.
The PC8808 TD-SCDMA femtocell reference design uses picoChip’s powerful multi-core DSP capabilities to implement the demanding joint detection (JD) algorithms within the TD-SCDMA standard that can dramatically reduce the interference from neighboring cells.
Delivering carrier class reliability and performance, the PC8808 implements a 200m femtocell serving up to four users, each with one AMR and one HSDPA channel. Its flexible architecture makes it easy to expand the design to support larger-scale systems, for instance three-carrier picocells. The design is suitable for all backhaul architectures, be they tunneling IuB or a collapsed stack model, enabling UMA- or SIP-based VoIP networks.
Optimized for simple interfacing with common RF solutions, the picoChip PC8808 is designed to provide seamless integration with standards-based OA&M (operations, administration and maintenance) systems. It can be integrated with a UE Sniffer entity for cell planning and synchronization; the synchronization function can run simultaneously with the femtocell PHY itself.
picoChip provides an easy-to-use Linux-based development platform that permits rapid customization of the PC8808 TD-SCDMA femtocell reference design. The development platform includes the radio network layer API (RNLAPI), a software stack that provides a message-passing medium for Node B application part (NBAP), frame protocol (FP) and OA&M messaging primitives.
