picoChip is a Platinum sponsor of the upcoming Femtocell World Summit, where we will be demonstrating our picoXcell™ PC302 femtocell SoC and explaining more about our LTE partnership with Continuous Computing (see below).
picoChip will also join industry efforts to address key common areas of concern such as interference management, open standards and interoperability.
At the conference, picoChip CEO Nigel Toon will be speaking publicly for the first time since taking up the reins in February, outlining his vision for true mass market femtocells, and explaining what the industry must deliver to enable them.
The picoXcell™ PC312 is the industry's first HSPA+ femtocell system-on-chip (SoC) to support true eight-user operation.
Offering 64QAM modulation and 3GPP Release 7 features, it serves the emerging enterprise femtocell market. It is pin-compatible with the four-user picoXcell PC302 device which is currently shipping to a number of picoChip's customers and partners. OEMs can therefore develop a range of products that combine low cost, low power, small size and high performance.
At this week’s LTE World Summit in Berlin, picoChip and Continuous Computing announced that they will collaborate to produce a comprehensive Long Term Evolution (LTE) femtocell and picocell reference implementation.
The agreement is believed to be the industry’s first alliance for LTE femtocells / picocells which extends from a hardware reference design and physical layer implementation (PHY) all the way up through Layer 2 and Layer 3 LTE protocols.
picoChip has confirmed that ip.access is currently acting as lead customer and development partner for its eight-user enterprise femtocell products.

Cambridge Consultants has developed Centaur, a comprehensive GSM/GPRS/EDGE/E-EDGE physical layer (PHY) reference design using picoChip’s picoArray hardware.
Enabling low-cost cellular basestations and femtocells based on mass-market 2G and 2.75G capabilities, Centaur could play a role in a key task facing the communications industry: extending GSM connectivity to a billion people in developing countries who have not previously had access to telephony services.

picoChip is proud to have two shortlisted candidates for the inaugural Femto Forum Femtocell Industry Awards.
The picoXcell PC302 system-on-chip is in the running as outstanding enabling technology innovation; while Chris Smart has been recognized by the judges in a joint nomination with Alan Law of Vodafone for his work on interference scenarios.
The final winners will be announced at the Femtocells World Summit in London in June (see above).
