Picochip products win Best Technology and Best Commercial Deployment awards at Femtocells World Summit 2010
25 June 2010
Bath, UK – 25 June 2010 – Picochip’s flagship products netted two top awards at the Femtocell Industry Awards 2010 ceremony. The picoXcell™ femtocell system on chip (SoC) family won in the Progress in Commercial Deployment category, while the PC906x LTE small cell solution, developed in conjunction with Continuous Computing and Cavium Networks, won the award for Best Enabling Technology. The awards took place at the Femtocells World Summit 2010, taking place in London from 22-24 June.
The Femtocell Industry Award panel’s selection of the company as the winner of the Progress in Commercial Deployment award is testament to Picochip’s early and continued role in enabling the rapidly expanding global femtocell market. Picochip’s technology is at the heart of the majority of the 13 commercial femtocell rollouts so far in Europe, the USA and Asia.
Nigel Toon, CEO of Picochip, said, “More and more of the world’s biggest mobile network operators are rolling out femtocell services in a bid to offer consumers better network coverage or to enhance network capacity. Added to this, many of them are exploring enterprise and metro applications and in the near future are likely to migrate to next-generation LTE femtocell ‘small cell’ deployments. The combination of these two significant industry Femtocell Industry Awards demonstrates that Picochip is uniquely positioned to serve both the current and future market opportunities.”
The multi-award winning Picochip PC960x LTE platform was launched at Mobile World Congress 2010 as the world’s first complete LTE small cell reference design: http://www.picochip.com/news/136/
These two significant industry awards come on the back of a series of recent industry accolades that highlight the extent to which Picochip technology is enabling the roll out of femtocells to mobile phone operators around the world and extending the application of its femtocell technology to LTE. The PC960x LTE femtocell product also received the Best Enabling Product/Technology Award at the Informa LTE Awards, held during LTE World Summit in Amsterdam last month: http://www.picochip.com/news/146/
