Femtocell Americas 2009

16 Nov 2009 - 17 Nov 2009, Hotel Del Coronado, San Diego

picoChip was a Gold Sponsor at the Femtocells Download Rupert Baines' presentation hereAmericas 2009 conference in San Diego.

It certainly was a busy event, with many contributions from operators such as AT&T and DoCoMo.  The general feeling at the show, with eight operators having launched femtocell services, was that the industry has "moved up a gear", with 2010 likely to see even more significant landmarks.

picoChip demonstrated its mass market HSPA femtocell solution, based on the highly integrated picoXcell PC302 and PC312 SoCs, which are now generally available, fully released and shipping in volume.

At the associated conference, VP of Marketing Rupert Baines offered his thoughts on the transition of femtocells from trials to full commercial deployment, with particular focus on the need for the femto community to become more sophisticated.

"As demand for femtocells increases and as we build from volumes of tens-of-thousands to tens-of-millions, chip manufacturers, OEMS and operators will face a number of challenges," he explained.

Femtocell Americas coincided with a successful Femto Forum plenary event, at which the forum welcomed seven new members. Plans are well advanced for a "plugfest" event in March 2010, while work continues on defining architectural requirements for enterprise femtocells.
